Understanding Secondary/Metastatic Cancer Summary Report
Healthwatch Oldham have completed a findings report following research conducted into individuals living with secondary cancer.

We have focused on patients' experiences through the health journey; providing a deeper insight into reoccurring issues and concerns, alongside the impact of these on patients. The research took place over 6 months and involved project planning with key stakeholders, an accessible online survey and a number of focus groups across Greater Manchester. We welcome working collaboratively with services to explore changes that can be implemented for secondary cancer patient experience.
Our key findings included insights into the following:
- Diagnosis, treatment and referral timelines
- Access to scans
- Information/awareness of secondary cancer
- Access to services and specialists
- Support needs (including treatment plans, end-of-life plans, and holistic needs assessments
- Emotional and psychological support
- Communication
- Data, statistics, and recording systems
